Zhejiang University School of Medicine(ZUSM) delegation visited University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) David Geffen School of Medicine. The members of delegation include Prof. Xu Zhengping, vice dean; Prof. Huang He, vice dean; Prof. Zhang Suzhan; Prof. Xiang Meixiang; Prof. Jin Hongchuan; Prof. Ke Yuehai, etc..
Prof. Randal Johnson, vice chancellor for international studies; Prof. Alan Robinson, executive dean of School of Medicine; Prof. Leonard Rome, vice dean of School of Medicine for research; Prof. LuAnn Wilkerson, vice dean of School of Medicine for teaching; Prof. Sun Ren, vice dean of School of Medicine for graduates met with the delegation. Both sides reviewed cooperation achievements in recent years, and discussed actively about possible areas of cooperation.
Since ZUSM established cooperation with UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine in 2006, two schools have carried out full and fruitful exchanges and cooperation in medical education, student exchanges and clinical cooperation. Our school’s eight-year program draws on UCLA’s HB&D(Human Body and Disease) new curriculum. Improved HB&D curriculum and PBL teaching achieved a good response after being implemented in eight-year program teaching. Until now the School has sent a total of 24 students to UCLA teaching hospital in the nine weeks of clinical practice. First Affiliated Hospital and Second Affiliated Hospital have set up Joint Liver Center and Joint Academic Center for Diagnosis respectively. Second Affiliated Hospital has also established residency training program. In October 2010, ZJU-UCLA Joint Center for Medical Research and Education was formally built up, which enhanced cooperation between two universities.
The School visited UCLA with main purpose of achieving butt joint in the docking areas of medical research, and also preparing joint center academic symposium which will be held in Zhejiang University this October. During the visit, professors of two schools conducted in-depth exchanged in stem cells, molecular biology, cancer and cardiovascular and other areas, and determined initial intention of scientific research.
