January 8th 2016, the annual conference of National Science and Technology Progress Award was held in Great Hall of the People. The research project led by Prof. He Huang and entitled “Key Technology Innovation and Application of Allogeneic Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation” was awarded 2015 Second Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award.
In all types of cancers, blood cancer and other malignant hematologic diseases are the top ones to cause death among children and adults under 35-year-old. Even though allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is the only effective treatment method of malignant hematologic diseases and 70 other diseases, the latest research data shows that survival rate is only around 40% to 50% during the first three years after the transplantation surgery. Tumor recurrence, graft versus host disease and the deficiency of the source of stem cell provider are the most challenging and urgent problems that the field of transplantation is currently facing. To solve these problems, the research project led by Prof. He Huang and entitled “Key Technology Innovation and Application of Allogeneic Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation” has made achievements after ten years’ research.
Based on technology renovation, the project established
integrated technology with Chinese characteristics of transplantation of haemopoietic stem cells of allogenes. The research result has been spoken highly by World Association of Bone Marrow Transplantation, The European Group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation and Asia-Pacific Group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation.
