In early November, the delegation of Zhejiang University School of Medicine visited universities and medical institutions in Singapore, including Nanyang Technological University, National University of Singapore and Ng Teng Fong General Hospital. The delegation was composed of Prof. Zhengping Xu who is the senior associate dean of School of Medicine and executive director of Zhejiang University Medical Center, Dr. Zhouwen Chen who is the associate dean for International Affairs and Students Affairs and Prof. Hong Zhang who is the assistant dean for International Affairs.
November 7th, the delegation paid a visit to Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University. It is the third medical school in Singapore which is co-eatablished by NTU and Imperial College London. The first batch of graduates will be awarded MBBS degree jointly by NTU and Imperial in 2018. Prof. James Best who is thedean and Prof. Lionel Lee, who is the executive vice-dean hosted the delegation and introduced the research and medical education of the school. After the meeting, the delegation had a tour to the Cognitive Neuroimaging Centre, Research and Teaching facilities.
In the morning of November 8th, the delegation visited Duke-National University of Singapore Graduate Medical School. Dr. Scott Compton, the vice dean of Education introduce the curriculums of the school. The curriculum was designed and modified from Duke system;after 4 years’ study, the students can get a jointed MD degree from Duke and NUS. The two sides held discussions on potential collaborations students exchange program.
In the afternoon, the delegation visited the Centre for Healthcare Simulation, Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology, Department of Physiology in the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. It is Singapore’s first and premier medical school. In 2008, the school became an integral part of the National University Health System, which is also composed of the National University Hospital, the NUS Faculty of Dentistry and the School of Public Health.
November 9th, the delegation visited Ng Teng Fong General Hospital. It is a 700 beds acute hospital comprising an 8-storey clinic tower, a 16-storey ward tower and a 400beds community hospital. The delegation also attended a simulation classes with the medical students from National University of Singapore.
During the visit, the delegation also met the alumni of Zhejiang University School of Medicine in Singapore.
